Education holds the key to the future.
“If we can impart a genuine respect for animals and an understanding of their needs in the next generation the future well being of all our animals will be transformed.”
Stephen Philpott, USPCA Chief Executive.
A huge task lies ahead; regrettably practical experience shows us the age of children abusing animals is falling. Eight year olds battering a young goat to death, schoolboys using a mobile phone to record a kitten being kicked from a river bridge, dogs blinded by pellet guns, the roll call of ignorance and depravity seems depressingly endless.
If these activities are to be curtailed the USPCA, schools, parents and youth groups need to talk to an increasing youthful audience.
Front line USPCA Welfare Officers visit schools and groups and to address current welfare concerns. These visits are regarded as a part of our core activity ‘The Prevention of Cruelty’ and play a part in future thinking.
